Members of HMCS Ottawa visit Nepean Museum, keeping our friendship going!!

On November 3, 2008, the Nepean Museum had its inaugural launch of the new “Celebrating Canada’s Best” Poppy Plaque at St. Leonard’s Catholic Elementary School in Manotick. ON hand that afternoon, were 60 Veterans from the Osgoode Rideau Township are.

Michael O’Bryne of CTV News served as our Master of Ceremonies for the afternoon. Mr. O’Bryne set the tone for the afternoon as re related a person anecdote about his visit to a War Graves Cemetery in Germany.

Pierre Poilievre, MP for the Osgoode and Rideau area thanks the assembled Veterans and their guests for their service and sacrifice.

Nepean Museum Life Member Lois Long receives a Certification of Appreciation from the Ottawa Museum Network for her generous support of the Nepean Museum on at an event held at Billings Estate National Historic Site on November 13, 2008.

Bob Wilson, Vice President of the Nepean Museum conceptualized the Poppy Plaque Program in the summer of 2007. Since November of 2007, we have issued more than 800 plaques to Veterans. Mr. Wilson is acknowledging our corporate partner for this important project, Scotiabank.

Gavin Leishman, President of the Nepean Museum announced the names of the recipients while Pierre Poilievre thanked the Veterans who received the poppy plaques in a grateful reception line.
